THE EVANGELIST IN BANDA ACEH

THE EVANGELIST IN BANDA ACEH

Immediately following the devastating earthquake and tidal wave which hit the Northern tip of Sumatra on December 26, 2004 Bob MacLean and a team composed of ICM evangelists went to Banda Aceh to take medicine and assist in the recovery effort in that area. Pictures of damage in that area were replicated in the earthquake which recently hit Bantul in central Java. The devastation in Banda Aceh was much worse killing well over 180, 000 people and literally leveling Aceh leaving countless thousands homeless and many orphans. ICM’s missionary and evangelists worked for several weeks in Aceh helping to remove and bury the bodies of the dead and handing out needed supplies to survivors.

One of the evangelists supported by ICM was so moved by the needs of the people he felt the call of God to move himself and his family from Jakarta to Banda Aceh so he could continue to help his fellow countrymen in this time of dire need. His prime concern was for the souls of people who were spiritually devastated but did not have a foundation of faith in the loving God who is Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He remained in Banda to demonstrate the love of God until Indonesian Christian Mission, (ICM), could marshal the assets to move him and his family to Aceh.

In August of 2005 he completed the move with his wife and daughter and today they still work with the people in Aceh. He has contacted and found interest in knowing about, coming to, and believing in Jesus, over 30 individuals. Some are ready for baptism but hesitate to move forward for fear of retaliation of the hard line Muslims of which the majority of the population is composed.

For security reasons we will show no pictures of this evangelist and his family on the web site. He is at risk because of his Christian faith and witness, yet he does not hesitate to continue to work among his people at the northern tip of Sumatra.
