History

The beginnings of Indonesian Christian Mission, ICM, took place in Central Java.  Bob and Jan arrived in the Salatiga in 1974.  Their first activity was to learn the language, both Javanese and Indonesian.  Following language school, from 1974 until 1986 they worked in the area around Salatiga and Boyolali.  Many souls were converted and churches founded.  Men won to Christ in this area at this time are currently leading the churches which were started.

In addition to the churches founded a Bible College is operating in Salatiga partially as a result of the work of ICM and Bob and Jan’s ministry.

To familiarize each of us with the Central Java area, it is the area recently in the news due to the earthquake with its epicenter at Bantul and where Mt. Merapi is threatening to erupt.

In 1980 Bob and Jan moved to Jakarta to afford their children an opportunity to attend the International School where they would learn in English instead of Indonesian.  The ensuing years from 1980 through 1983 they spent in evangelizing in this densely populated area.  From 1984 to 1986, in addition to their work in evangelism, they were training nationals in evangelism.  In 1987 this work progressed into the start of a Bible College  which operated from 1987 to 1995.  During this period students were educated as evangelists.  Following graduation they went out to start and minister to churches in  Papua, Nias, Sumatra, Surabaya, Banyuwangi and Jakarta.

Bob and Jan continue to work with a team of evangelists in Jakarta and Banda.
